Question Question: Why is my Ridge Line so low? (with pics)

    Hello everyone,

I have a brief question regarding hammock suspension:

In the photo below, why is my ridge line so low? I am using some DIY Turtledog stands to hold up my system, but I can't figure out why the ridge line is sagging...

I would love to hear your opinion / feedback.

    Thanks,
    NovoxJinx

You have the suspension to lose and the pullouts to tight.

    Ahh, I see! Thanks Nuttysquirrel.

    I'll try making those adjustments.

I have yet to see a stand that doesn't flex. Yes, you can pull the suspension tighter than it is on the picture - and it will help some. But as soon as you get into the hammock, chances are that the ridgeline will sag again. I added some shock cord to compensate and keep the netting up when using a stand. You won't be able to do anything about the saggier lay, but maybe that's not an issue for you.

    Question:

How long is your hammock, and how long is your ridgeline?

I am with Sarge. It looks to me like your pole is too short for your hammock. I have this issue with my HH on my TD and in order to compensate I ended up tying in figure 8 on the bight knots at the very end where the suspension comes off the hammock. The other solution for me was to extend the pole.

Dkurfiss was correct- the cross pole on my turtle dog stands was too short. Because of this, my suspension was too tight. It's very important to make sure that the pole is long enough. In this instance, the poke was 10' long. I upgraded to a 12' long pole from Home Depot.
