I can add to this....for $200 it is a pretty good deal. The hammock & fly are well thought out. The fly has stuff pockets for the guy lines and easy adjustment cord locks. The hammock hang rope has slots in it to easily adjust the length. I spent about 12 days in mine on a motorcycle trip from TN to NV and found it waterproof and comfortable. If you set it up with the correct tension, you can sleep on your side which is important to me. Some pic's:

There was a mean storm that night, 30mph driving wind. If I had known would have hung alot lower to the ground. As it was I had to stick my hand out, grab the middle edge of the tarp and hold it down for 45 min. Only my hand got wet.

    The Grend Canyon campground:

Eagle Lake NM...it rained all night, there were no trees in this campground, so I hung in the shelter....the poles were too close together...not very comfortable:

    Wisco, thanks for the review!

As I'm planning a similar DIY project, one detail of the lashing is very important to me: Did I get you right, that there is one long cord on each side that is able to move about freely on the hammock side as well as the carabiner side?

If so, that would be quite an incredible feature that all other designs lack: with the cord moving slightly, the hammock could actually adapt to the specific way you're you're loading it!

    Thanks again for posting this,
    Franz
