Nice write up on one of Michigan's newest trails. Looks like you had a perfect site along the river. I'm going to have to look into this one for a future trip.

Very nice...gotta love northern MI! I will need to try this one sometime.

Can you stop in anytime to park (self-pay station)? Or do you need to pay in person somewhere?

both these camprounds are self pay to camp. Parking at the trailhead inside the parks is free. there is also a couple spots on 186 right where the nct/fife loop turns. if you pull in the 2 track its about 100ft off the rd south side with designated parking spot.

Yep, that is where I started at, (186).. I had lunch at your first camp site, met some fine young folks there, that area reminded me of high banks a lot.. Did the whole trail in one day, didn't plan on it, it just happened that way.. Good trail.. Thanks for sharing..

We would be one step closer to world peace, if everyone slept in a hammock..

the 2nd night camp spot felt a little less remote. you can hear the trucks on the highway at night. also there is a race track near that was running car races sat night that was easily heard as well. for those that care we had 4g connection on both sprint and verizon for the entire loop.
