Oh my.
Let's all pool our resources and start our own "hammocks only campgrounds (HOCs)!" We'll have our greatest minds (professor hammock, dutch, MacEntyre, etc) genetically modify the campground trees to have strap tolerant bark and we'll place the trees at exactly the right spans to get the golden 30 degree suspension angles we all love!
LOL.
Seriously, I think Shug and a few others commented perfectly. I'm pretty lucky in that I haven't had many issues with rangers (thankfully). When I have been confronted by a ranger, I'll fight the urge to be a raging, know-it-all, uppity jerk. Instead, I try hard to listen to the concerns raised. Sometimes, I'm surprised by what I hear (the concern is quite different than what I expected). Whenever I can, I volunteer to work with the organizations/policy-makers to come up with solutions that are a "win-win" for everyone. Educating from within, where trust already exists, works wonders.
(cK stepping down from her soapbox, now)
In case there is any doubt.... I love the hamm'mock. I want everyone to have the opportunity to experience the hamm'mock (a.k.a., sleeping in the piney woods, beneath the dark, starry sky, cocooned in downy goodness).
HANG ON, FOLKS!!
