    Hammocks in Red Rocks?

A couple of really good buddies of mine are fortunate enough to work for a company that likes to do big Christmas parties. This year, they are staying at Planet Hollywood in Las Vegas, NV. Trying to capitalize on being in such a wonderful area, they plan to stay a couple days extra, and camp (both to save money, and for the experience). We all hang in DIY hammocks when we typically go out, and that's what they'd prefer, but we're concerned they won't be able to find suitable trees to hang from.
So, this request goes out to you left coasters. Is it a reasonable possibility for them to find trees to hand from, or should they just plan on going to ground? Even better, if there ARE trees to hang from in the Red Rocks area, I'd love to be able to point them in the right direction. Photos would be nice motivation too!

I use to live in So Cal and was a rock climber and spent a fair amount of time there so I know Red Rocks pretty well. That area is a desert and you are unlikely to find many trees to hang from out there. The joshua trees are pretty spread out and I'm not sure I'd trust them anyways. There are some trees in some of the canyons. Willow Springs is one idea without much of a walk but generally the canyons are a pretty far walk and generally no camping is allowed in the canyons (although some climbers do bivy for the longer climbing routes). I bet you could find a couple of slot machines to string your hammock between ;-) I would be interested to see if anyone does have any hammock pictures from there. It's a gorgeous area.

I would try driving a bit farther to Mt. Charleston, plenty of juniper & pines above desert altitude.

Mt Charleston does not look too far. I'll have to check that out. Probably just going to be one night. We will be there around Dec 5th. I wonder what the temps are like on Mt. Charleston.
