    Glacier National Park

I am planning to take the family out to Glacier National Park next summer and was wondering any of you could provide some recommendations regarding lodging, hiking, and hanging. We will likely rent a cabin for the duration of the week we will be there, but I'd really like to do a one to two day hike and hammock camp with the family. Does anyone have any experience with GNP?

    Thanks,

Rent your cabin now. They book fast.

We hammocked at Many Glacier Campground and Two Medicine. The campgrounds are first come first pick so get there at 8:00am if you want a spot. Most back country campsites look like hanging would be ok. But not all of them. I would have go to ground option if I were doing extensive backcountry.

All the hikes are wonderful. Ptarmigan tunnel and iceberg lake were my favorites we did this July. Get bear spray and carry it. Bring a water filter and enjoy fresh cold glacier water trail side.

We are hoping to return again next summer but not definite yet.

Thanks for the recommendations. We are about to reserve a cabin just outside the park near Whitefish. I've been checking out that site, but was hoping for some feedback from someone who has been there. I find it funny that two Louisianians are talking about the best places to camp in Montana...

I lived in Montana for three years and always consider it my second home. Hope to spend more time there soon.

Also check out hike734 on youtube. He has videos of all the hikes. His maps are also very good for hiking trails. If you want to look at mine let me know we can arrange a meet up maybe.

Just look at the Glacier Backcountry page. I am by no means an expert on Glacier but did plenty research when planning our week there.

We stayed at the West Glacier KOA and liked it - both East and West Glacier KOAs have cabins.

I stayed at Whitefish mountain resort this July. Next time I go back I will stay closer to the park, or in the park. I thought it was a little to far away. Whitefish is a nice town though.

Belton Chalets is great, they will give you a discount if you just sleep in sleeping bags and bring all of your own bedding supplies. You have to hike to get to it by the way!

Fish Creek Campground, it has a wonderful view, reservations are easy to get online and it makes for a no fuss no muss type of trip! Check it out, especially the photos of their campground!

Johnsons family campground - on the St. Mary's side - stayed there in 2010.

...I was just poking around on "airbnb.com" the other night and there were a few cool looking spots near glacier....one particular in Kalispell caught my attention.

Back over on the east side there's a restaurant called "Two sisters cafe" - it was a hoot of a place to check out and it looked like they had some cabins behind the place..

A trip out to Polebridge is a necessity....just to say you've been there...
You don't HAVE TO be crazy to be here - But I assure you it will help.....
