I always bring a beenie or a hooded shirt to sleep in. Even if temps will be in the 60's the moisture will give me cold like symptoms in the morning. Keeping my head dry helps.

I used to snore in hammocks, woke up every morning with dry mouth and sore throat. Then I started to use a small pillow under my neck. This tilts my head a bit backwards, helping to keep the airway open.

I carry a small baggie of throat lozenges with me every outing and pop one in the morning if I'm feeling a bit raspy. Fisherman's Friend are hands down the best cough drops out there. I use them at home too if I get sick.
These are great tips. I am going out on my first backpacking trip using hammocks so I have found this site to be very informative. Thank you for sharing your experiences and also how to tackle different situations a noob wouldnt think of.

Yep snoring enough to keep the wildlife away. I dont usually snore either.
As a wise man once said "If woman don't find you handsome at least they'll find you handy." Hang in there.

I realize this is an old thread but have been having these same symptom's every time now at first I thought it might be weeds ,pollen etc etc ,then I thought it was the dry air ,etc ,but I just did my 1st winter camp in a long time ,couple of feet of snow so no weeds or pollen around,I had got into the habit of taking Sudafed and throat lozenges right as I get into bed to sleep ,and still wake up and cant swallow cant even have my morning coffee, gotta drink small amounts of water for a few hours until it comes around ,and even then it can last all day .it is beginning to make me not want to go anymore, has anyone else come up with any other solution's to this , I have tried all of the above suggestions except going to doctors , (because he might think I am insane )I don't smoke very rarely have a fire and I am not allergic to anything ,this is driving me nuts ,
    always use tree straps please
