    Diamond tarp help

So I got my two Yukon outfitters tarps in today. They cover my BG hammock, but I think I'm setting it up to high. What sayith the hive mind? This thing is so long that I could attach microbiners directly to the tarp and attach it to the dutch sliders on the hammock suspension.

ETA: i probably should have read the sticky first.

When you say "too high", it is a subjective question.

Looks good to me, but, I move my tarp up or down depending on my mood and weather. For really bad weather, you may need a GrizzBeak and I would also recommend an UQP.

It does look like you could bring the anchors down a little to tighten the ridgeline a bit.
Enjoy and have fun with your family, before they have fun without you

Doesn't look bad to me. The ridgeline could be tighter and the height of the tarp depends on the weather as mentioned. I would keep the tarp separate from the hammock suspension so you can raise or lower the tarp as needed and to have the ability to set up the tarp first if its raining.

Polycro peak beaks can help, too.

    Tarp 101

I agree with most of what Floridahanger wrote. When it is very hot and humid and you are walking around under it, no significant rain raise up the attachments on the trees to allow maximum airflow and head space. If it starts to rain or is about to lower it down very close to or touching the ridge line of the hammock. Add a "GrizzBreak" door to the windward side if you really think this is necessary, many people would argue that it is only necessary if you are cooking a meal during a rainstorm, not sure if I would recommend that. Also instructions on HF if you prefer to make your own, actually very easy with drop cloth from hardware store and tape and cheap cord. But if you want something that lasts longer:

Also if you can find a stick or cut one or use a trekking pole use that to prop up the edge of the tarp for porch mode, then move back to ground stake if wind picks up for a strong rainstorm, snow blizzard, haboob (sand/dust storm) or whatever. (if hail and brimstone then move the heck out of Sodom and Gomorrah, joking)

Ask your tent camping friends if their gear can do that? But be nice about it ;-)

Soy next problem revolves around the hammock suspension hitting the tarp suspension and moving the tarp and exposing the hammock.uploadfromtaptalk1408586349059.jpguploadfromtaptalk1408586362142.jpguploadfromtaptalk1408586377313.jpg

It's "The Ultimate Hang" by Derek Hansen, here on HF as "dejoha".

I have the same tarp. Derek Hansen's method of making a "V" with the tarp suspension that the hammock suspension goes through works really well. I did find that I needed trees spread further apart than I thought I would to get the ridge line taught and not interfere with the hammock suspension. My first night ever in a hammock was interupted by a thunderstorm but I stayed nice and dry with the top pitched fairly close to the hammock and the sides guy'd out so the hammock didn't touch any of the tarp.
