Synthetic, lil bulky, lil heavier, but man, way more affordable.

Climashield is polyethylene. It packs far better than PPEF, and is warmer. It's not heavy at all.

If insulation materials were presented on a scale, down would be at the warm, lightweight end. Cotton batting would be at the other end. Climashield belongs at the warm, lightweight end, near down.

Ordered one tonight looking forward to ditching the very large sleeping bag I've been lugging around.

Sounds pretty neat, and for $100 might be worth checking out on a whim...

Anyone who's used one have a review to share?

Thanks, mac, for posting this and so thoughtfully responding to all the questions!

Climashield Apex 6.0 has a 2" loft which would be toasty well below freezing.
I'm curious if you ever made that thicker blanket? If so, what was the weight and the temperature rating? I normally go with a 20* rating since I camp in higher elevations.

I don't recall the weight, but it should have added 8 oz. The temp rating is a guess... I would not hesitate to use it at 20*F or lower.

This looks like a really good deal, especially for the weight. You may be recieving an order from me in the near future

Just to reiterate... the standard Top Blanket should take a warm sleeper below freezing with no trouble.
The issue is how warm or cold you sleep.
I'll double the insulation for $50 more.
