Thanks, DuctTape! I haven't made the connection with who you are at the other site (and it's OK if you want to let me find out for myself!), but I've seen some videos of you hiking on the NPT and the videographer that you were hiking with reached out to me on the other site. It's starting to seem to me as if there just aren't that many of us crazies, and it gets so that everyone knows everyone else, at least in a particular region.

Didn't mean to be so crytpic. But since you didn't make the immediate connection, I will let you have some fun trying to figure it out. Shouldn't be too difficult. You are right, there aren't too many of us crazies but the population is growing.

    Welcome Kevin

I used to sleep really good with just a foam mat or thin inflatable. I got a hammock to keep cooler in the hot Louisiana summertime campouts. Once I tried it I was hooked. Bad thing is sleeping on the ground isn't very fun now.

Howdy and welcome Another Kevin. As many above have noted, and I concur, your plan will work fine. Some have mentioned double layers and no zip netting which is certainly good advice, however if you are buying from REI, the plan you have for the HHExUL makes sense. I have that same hammock and although I use different tarp set ups since I also use an assortment of hammocks, when I used the stock tarp, I rode out some pretty hefty Texas storms and remained high and dry.
