I'm starting to put my gear together for a trip I have coming up in Feb on a motorcycle. It's covering a lot of different territory. I think that there is going to be times where a hammock doesn't work. I also don't want to pass on cool campsites in search of trees that will be few and far inbetween in places.
My thinking so far is an inflatable pad for bottom insulation and padding on the ground. A rectangular tarp that I can pitch in the trees or on the ground using a stick or the motorcycle to hold it up.
Now the issue, I really don't like spiders or anything that bites. I am thinking something like the OR bug bivy. I think that I can mod it somehow to work as bug netting for a hammock.
I think that there is the potential for as many nights on the ground as in the hammock. I don't want to limit myself by making due with either.
Any thoughts or has anyone else can up with anything that will work.
