You just have to think about, when you're in the hammock, which direction is the force being pulled, and put something up to counterbalance it in the opposite direction.
Now what I want to find out is: how light can we make this? What diameter of aluminum poles (and wall thickness) would support the weight of someone hanging from the top of it without buckling? I used wooden boards because they're cheap, but I wouldn't backpack with them. How can we make a sturdy treeless hammock stand that breaks down to 18" or less, and weighs less than a pound???
