    Hennessy Super Shelter Questions????

Has anyone had any experience with the HH Super Shelter insulation system? Looks like I'm going to have to get the majority of hangs this year in the fall and winter. Just wondering if it would be worth investing in. Any advice or suggestions are appreciated.

Some of us use it and like it. Some of us don't use it because they don't like it. Some of us don't use it bewcause they don't trust it. Some of us don't use it because they hate it. The opinions run the gamut. I have been down to 12* F in mine with a proper sleep system. Others can't get below 50. Needless to say... I like it. Can't speak for others.
I may be slow... But I sure am gimpy.

It's a fine system, do a search and you'll find a great deal of good info from a bunch of folk who like rr above have made it work well, I had one down to 26* with a 20* bag.

I bought a SS for my first hammock, an explorer deluxe, and it work fine for me. I used it into the lower 30's and was fine..probably could have gone quite a bit colder. I just found that it was too much fuss to use and went to an underquilt. I wasn't able to fit it into the HH snakeskins when it was setup so I would have to pull out the foam pad and stow it separately the next day then reassemble the next night. It wasn't a huge deal, but I like my HG incubator better. Just a personal preference...that said, it is a solid system..just not my thing.

Ive had mine down to the low 40s and it could have done lower but its all about what you want. This thing is hit or miss for people but I like mine

The Supershelter certainly works, but it's not a slick add on. I mentioned in previous posts that it doesn't seem quite the right fit and the shockcord loops from the insulation do not align with the hammock side pullouts. Lots of testing and adjusting has got it working now, but straight out of the bag (as per Toms video) - no.

I'm beginning to think that my Explorer, bought 8 years ago, may have slight dimensional differences to current ones. Can anyone confirm if there has been a stealth Mk2 (bottom entry) introduced that can explain the mismatch with the Supershelter?

The thought just popped into my head.....any chance you have got a 10 footer SS (Expedition) instead of the 11 foot Explorer model ?

To the OP, I think my SS is pretty much bomb proof. Does the job with little fuss, and the whole unit stays together for packing.

Fine for 3 season camping down to the 0C to 5C range, extra insulation needed if your using it during winter.

Both bags say explorer ultralight asym. No mention of size, nor can I remember that there was a size choice when buying - only type and bottom entry or zip.

Also I just measured the ridge line there and the hammock is 10ft - I didn't know there was an 11ft option, presuming I had the largest (having given my spec-6ft 2" to hennessy when ordering all those years ago)

It's a 110 inch ridge line which equates to an 11foot hammock. The Super shelters are numbered 1 for the expedition and 2 for the Explorer
