    Wanted: Super Simple Suspension

I recently made a hammock for my 5 y/o nephew. Just a simple gathered-end, using amsteel fixed loops to gather then ends. I'm trying to come up with a super simple suspension that would allow him to quickly hang the hammock on his own. I want the suspension to be made of straps, permanently attached to the hammock, adjustable, with minimal hardware, and no knots. I'm picturing the strap leading from the hammock, going around the tree/bunk bed post/porch post/etc., then hooking back onto the strap and pulling the tail end to tighten. Something like a cross between the Dutch Clip and a cinch buckle. I went to Dutch's site, but didn't see what I was looking for.

Has anyone seen such a piece?

Does anyone have any other ideas for a "one piece" simple rig that a 5 y/o could handle with a little practice?

Poly webbing custom length tree hugger, loops both ends, caribiner. What kind of span are you looking for? This is as simple as I can get it. Im visioning a tree or post with the tree hugger wrapped around as needed to make length then back to hammock loop, secure with biner.

I think your thinking of a G-clip. Dutch has temporarily discontinued them from his site while on vacation.

The clip does what your wanting. You can have the loop from hammock attach to the strap, then go around the tree/post and you tighten the strap at the tree/post to adjust.

Keep an eye out for Dutch to return and get these started again.
Enjoy and have fun with your family, before they have fun without you

I still feel the slap strap type of multiple loop strap and biners are easy and should be for a 5 year old child. Strap end loop around pole, bedpost, tree etc remainder of strap through the loop hammock biner clip into loop that gives the ideal 30 degree down angle. No knots no hassle.

If he can put a waist belt on and take it off, I'd suggest cinch buckles lark's headed onto the Amsteel loops, single eye tree straps with either a biner or Dutch clip at the tree. Adjusting for variable tree distances is easy, the strap need never come off the hammock, and you'll never leave it on the tree.

Thanks for the great ideas, folks! I think I'll try Mike Davis' idea first, since I already have all the materials, and see how the little guy does. Then, go for the other hardware, if that ends up not working well enough.

+1 on this. Get a set of ENO Atlas straps and a climbing rated biners and it's up and running in no time.

And if you still want the strap permanently attached to the hammock you may be able to use the Atlas or Slap strap with the fixed loop attached at the hammock end. Then pass the end with loops around the support and use a carabiner to get the correct length.

clip around tree and tighten. I am switching off my whoopies back to this just for the simplicity.

My son's set up is continuous loop attached to a carabiner. He has Atlas straps for tree straps. Wrap straps around the tree, clip to hammock, adjust as needed. My 7 year old daughter has set up his hammock with minimal instruction and we're all new to this. I hadn't thought of attaching it to the hammock and using the biner to secure the strap to the tree.

I'm using a Dutchware cinch buckle type setup with 12' lashing straps.
