    Hammocking and bushcrafting

Not sure if this has been posted, but I found this video pretty interesting.

    https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=4nREMSbv0GI

Just goes to show how much we really need to get by in the woods.

I'm a gearhead. I enjoy using all my different types of gear and love having options, but this guy really makes you stop and think.
Our high tech gear doesn't really do anymore than what this guy is doing.

That said, I still prefer my gear, but I'm intrigued by the "less is more" philosophy.
Could learn a thing or two from this guy.

I like is style too. If you are a fair weather camper, you can leave a lot at home including tarp & insulation.

As for insulation, that can be the case as long as the overnight low temperature is well above 70F that most people start needing a bit of backside insulation.

I will say, this guy didn't seem to bring much in the way of food for a 3 day 2 night trip.

    Cheers

Funny. I was just watching his "Secrets of Stealth Camping" this morning. Looks pretty cool. His buddy, Bob808Knight, looks interesting too.

The tradeoffs come down to how much time you spend trying to stay alive and healthy and how much doing other things. From what I can tell the minimalist pack has not changed weight much on several hundred years but the contents and amount of work required to use them has changed significantly.
    YMMV

Everyone's style is unique, can learn from others

There are many styles of camping, it is best to find one or several that suit you and make you happy. The indigenous people in the Amazon rain forest who I grew up with would have considered this guy's bushcraft methods very heavy, cumbersome and slow compared to their ultra light and ancient aboriginal methods. They traveled with far less gear at incredibly fast speeds through much more dense jungle with pouring rain for hours a day. No tarp, no flint or fire steel, no mylar packs of freeze dried food, no shoes. They were my childhood instructors. My father on the other hand really liked his shoes/boots and for safety from jaguar thought a 410 better than just a bow and arrow. But to each their own, whatever makes you happy and gets you out of the AC/climate controlled living room away from the idiot box (aka T.V. or P.C. with videos).

I love going out with just my haversack and wool blanket, do it all of the time....

Gave the guy a quick look, and there was one that xaught my eye. I like how he sets up the hammock at the end of the second video.

I did not click the link, but I'm going to guess that you are watching Kenneth Kramm(SP?). His love of the outdoors comes through in his videos and he has some great herb lore. He also shows off a side of Texas I never knew existed. I highly recommend watching his videos as he likes to explore all aspects of nature.
