    Bug net spreader bar ideas/pics?

I cat-napped in the yard at dusk a couple of nights ago in my DN with the Eno bug net, just to test the bug net. The south wind has blown the nickel-size coastal rice field mosquitoes up this way, and I wanted to use the opportunity to really put it to the test. Over all I am happy with it. Using an 83% ridgeline to hang it puts the netting against the hammock sides rather tight, which I guess is the way it was designed. Later I found I had 9 mosquito bites running down my right tricep where it has rested against the hammock and the tightly draped bug net. I guess our state bird can bite through the netting AND the hammock?

I'd like to move the bug net out and away from the sides of the hammock, ostensibly to keep the net slightly wider. Three reasons: First, obviously to keep the mosquitoes at a distance. Second, to afford myself a less claustrophobic experience. Lastly, to aid in a larger asym angle: Like some have stated on here, that net does slightly hinder asym.

To that end, anyone have any ideas/pics about outside pole mods for the bug net utilizing shortened poles and retrofitted side panel pulls on the bug net? I'd like to get it a couple of inches off both sides of the hammock if possible. Also, who makes a wider bug net? Thanks in advance!

It seems that you need something akin to mid-panel Tarp tie-outs. But, that will require extra material, which sounds like you are nearly short of already.

As an alternative, you could spray or soak the bugnet in permithrin.

Agreed. Hence the need for a bug net with a larger radius.

Assuming there may be a little material to pull on, could you do the "small rock & line" kind of tie-out? You know, where you put a small rock inside the netting, then you wrap the net onto the rock from the outside with a clove hitch or similar knot and tie that line out to a tree or even stake it to the ground? Free option to try, anyway...
There is no try, only do.

^^^^^^^^ this fellow may have just solved your problem. I actually have my simply light hanging with an Eno bug net on it right now. Going to try this tomorrow to see how it works.

Now THAT is thinking outside the box! Can you imagine it popping during the night? That would be alarming, but funny the next morning.

I've been thinking about sewing a patch on each side and installing a small grommet or eyelet, then inserting a slender 2' rod as a spreader bar. Still trying to decide what to use on the ends that could fit on the holes, but not slip through or back out. Any ideas?

I, too, got the "bugnet-spreader-bar" bug and I did this recently, but used ≈ 24" lines to tie the pebbles inside the net from the outside. Then, I just tied the tail ends of the lines around some sticks I found around camp. It worked good and felt roomy on the inside but looked a little "hobo-ish" from the outside. Just untie and discard the sticks when packing up.
