Question Picking a new setup or modding what I have? Newbie

Hi, I just started the switch to hammocks but am overwhelmed by the options. Looking for UL (hopefully under 2.5 lbs) setup for 3-season w/net, easy setup. I can sew. Have sleeping bag/mat, no intention of going to UQ at this point due to weight/size/price, so thinking of double layer to stow pad/add baffling.

    What I have:
The Expeditioner w/ Mosquito Net (2 lbs 4 oz) (not a Hennessy!) and no tarp...but has gear stash and is cozy. Packs huge and is loud. I'd like to upgrade.

I just bought a Hennessey Scout (2 lbs 11 oz ish) since I'm 5-7 and tried it 2 nights about 40d...hated it but probably because I failed miserably with the lashing and the hammock sunk low. Annoyed with pad sliding around under me all night. Fly seemed too small. Have snakeskin. Liked the bottom entry and ease of setup concept.

My debate is add the whoopie slings I purchased (and maybe sew a layer to hold pad?) and retry it, or send back and get a full size UL w/2 layers?

What setup should I buy/build with those characteristics?
Any success adding a layer to the Scout for pad/baffling?

    Thanks!

My suggestion: DiY all the way,

A dual layer hammock is dirt simple to so and can easily weigh ~20oz or less, depending on how long you want and what weight fabric you use (my 20z estimate is 8 total yards of Dutch's 1.6 oz/yd^2 and costs $4.25/yd but you can go lighter and/or less expensive)

A Fronkey style bugnet is <10 oz and also very easy to sew (easier than many stuff sacks I've sewn). If you are more confident with a machine than I am, an integrated net is less weight and there are many tutorials.

Total weight ~30oz, Total cost ~$60.

Thanks Insaniac99. I made my first dual layer this weekend . Going to lay around in it before I start on the bug net so I know what I want .
