I do like to live on the edge at breakfast-time!!!
Seriously though ... I try to be really careful and use extreme vigilance. Just detest getting out of my hammock comfort for the most important meal of the day. Pretty confident with alcohol stoves but play with fire and ......... well, you know.

Sooo, some expermentaion is in order?
Like I said, not worried about a ember making a small hole, but will my gear go "poof" with me in it from a static spark?

I would think the danger of the "poof" reaction would be no greater than that of a tent as they made from essentially the same fabric. I would think following the normal, reasonable guidelines for campfire safety would provide the same level of assurance in a hammock as on the ground.

I believe polyester self extinguishes which is why it is used for children's sleepwear now. I could be wrong about that. I can't locate the thread aobut the burn test id atm. Nylon also has self extinguishing properties if I remember correctly.
I may be slow... But I sure am gimpy.
