    Dynaglide or amsteel?

    Hello all,

I'm new to hanging and like the idea of a whoopie sling, I love DIY so of course I'll make my own. I plan on placing an order with dutchware but was unsure which line to get? I saw dynaglide has a weight limit of 1000 Ibs, amsteel didn't state its limit. I'm 215 Ib, is one better than the other?
    Thanks Jeff

Rope weight limits are based on their density.

This thread might be helpful in figuring out more specs.

7/64" Amsteel Blue has an average breaking strength of 1600 lbs also, this is the smallest Amsteel I have found.

If you saw off your toothbrush handles, go with Dynaglide. If you take the whole toothbrush, stick with Amsteel.

I'm at 200 pounds and have been Dynagliding it for years. I also ALWAYS hang at 30 degrees. If you flatten out your hang, definitely use Amsteel.

Dynaglide would hold you but it depends on the if you want a higher safety factor or not. I like to go 5 to 1 breaking strength to body weight so I prefer the extra breaking strength of amsteel. Amsteel is also a lot easier to splice. Just a couple of things to consider.

I use dynaglide ucr's because mine weigh 14 grams total. My 7/64 amsteel ucr's weigh 27g but I don't count the grams, I just like the dynaglide better. I weigh 190.

I'm a gram weenie and had always used Amsteel. Then I got a Dynaglide woopie from a member here included in a hammock sale. Worked fine, but definitely looked a little "thin". So I busted my scale out and if I remember correctly the difference was 0.3 oz. Granted the Dyna woopie was a little longer, but even though i cut my toothbrush, and use the lightest SL hammocks possible, I couldn't really justify the weight difference for the peace of mind. There was some fraying here and there, and I feel better with Amsteel. No need to replace it every year or so. But that's me....

I'm a bit bigger than the OP, at about 270, I went with 1/8" amsteel for my whoopies. This was just a matter of preference, the weight savings between the 7/64 and 1/8 was negligible to me, and I'd rather have a bit of extra safety on my side.

I prefer dynaglide simply due to feel and bulk. I'm ~160lbs.
