    Moving to NC

    Hey Guys,

Moving from the great state of Virginia where I have been to almost every major park and I am looking for some new adventures in this state.... I have already decided to climb mt. Mitchell and wanted to make it a 2 day event... but what are some other places of adventure that are great for hammocks... And Just so you know I will be living in Wake Forest N.C. which i already know is going to be further away but don't really care too much about that.

"Backpacking North Carolina" by Joe Miller is a good book to give you ideas.

I've got some videos in my YouTube channel of some of these places.

Welcome to NC. Mark your calendar for the Smoke Butt Hang next year at Falls Lake. It's an annual hang outside Durham NC.

And join us at the Hunger Hang this October at Merchants Mill Pond State Park.

If Hotlips is at a hang, be prepared to get some good DO cooking.
I am still 18 but with 52 years of experience !

Wake Forest is okay. NC is great! When I was in Chapel Hill, counted 7 state parks within an hour. And, there are some other good hiking venues for local, like Cary, like the American Tobocco Trail. Depends on what is most interesting to you. My list includes the elusive Mountains to the Sea trail and reading a book about Uwharrie before doing that area because I hear it is considered to be our oldest mountain range. But there is a lot of Piedmont (flat) around here. If heights are your kick you will of course have to go to the mountains but we've got some nice ones, including the highest on the AT and, of course, the good GA, VA and TN sections of that trail provide some nice hikes. Welcome and have fun! The places I've checked so far (local to Sanford, an hour south of Wake) have been hammock friendly. Raven Rock has hike in spots great for gear testing (around 2 miles one way). Welcome!
