Assembling a hammock stand from a www.hammocks.com hardware only kit.

The video is being processed as I type. It shouldn't be long now.

I may be slow... But I sure am gimpy.

Thanks for vid. Nice tip on the shims!

Mine arrived today. Can't believe they shipped for free. The package was heavy and large enough that shipping alone must of cost more than the $19.99 they charged for the thing.

Thanks, Rev. I've wondered about those stands.

Thanks rev. I like it ,but man thats big. what do you think it weighs? And I would make one suggestion, trim the outrigger legs off at a 45* or steeper angle. to prevent stubbing a toe. Kicking one of those 4 x 4's in the middle of the night would hurt

Thanks so much for putting it to a video that was great. The way it looks on there website it looked cheap and flimsey. Glad to see it's welded together. I will order mine tomorrow morning. No I am off to measure the room I intend to put it in.

Edit: well the room in 11' 6" wall to wall but corner to corner I can make it work.
    hmmmmmm....?

    thanks so much again

let me know how you sleep in it.

The Do-It-Yourself Hammock Stand Kit is an ideal way to create an attractive stand for your Mayan, Brazilian, Nicaraguan hammock without spreader bars. Made of solid 11-gauge steel (the toughest we offer), this kit includes two brackets and the hardware needed to construct this stand. All you have to do is pick up the lumber at your local lumber yard. In a few short steps, you will have a unique looking hammock stand that you can build yourself.

Kit includes rope for hanging your hammock. Consider upgrading with a chain hanging kit for added durability. See our chain hanging kit shown below.

    Materials Needed:

Assembly time takes approximately 15 to 20 minutes using a crescent or sprocket wrench. To complete the kit you will have to pick up five 4x4* posts at your local lumber yard:

1-8ft long 4x4 post (center beam)
2-6ft long 4x4 posts (hammock support posts)
    2-4ft long 4x4 posts (legs)

For the XXL Mazatlan Mayan, the Large Family Size Brazilian, and the XXL Mazatlan Thick String Mayan Hammocks:

    1- 10ft long 4x4 post (center beam)
2- 6ft long 4x4 posts (hammock support posts)
    2- 4ft long 4x4 posts (legs)

*Please note that the brackets in this set are designed to fit true 4-inch by 4-inch posts. Most construction-grade 4x4s actually measure 3.5 x 3.5 inches. If using smaller construction grade lumber, we recommend inserting wood shims so that posts fit securely in the brackets.

Included: 1 DIY Hammock Stand Kit: brackets, 2 Screw hooks, 8 Hex Lag Screws, 2 Metal Brackets, 2 Lengths of Rope

    Not Included: Wood

I was worried about the same thing but figured for $20 I could risk it. How bad could it be?

The shipping weight on this thing is about 25#. It's a bit creaky but no more so than the wood was outside. And that's just sound.

I am going to have to adapt my hanging hardware. It appears that I am slipping slightly down the 4 x 4's Nothing serious but I am lower to the ground than I was when I went to bed. I suspect the forces are somewhat different than on a tree where the force of the hammock tends to tighten the cinch of the webbing more effectively. In this case I think the inch does not tighten properly and so there iks a gradual slip.

they do provide some screw hooks with the hardware kit which I was not going to use. Under the circumstances I think I will install them and hook my webbing to that. As long as the hook is screw fully into the 4 x 4 I don't think it should be a bending point.
