In this case I think the inch does not tighten properly and so there iks a gradual slip.

they do provide some screw hooks with the hardware kit which I was not going to use. Under the circumstances I think I will install them and hook my webbing to that. As long as the hook is screw fully into the 4 x 4 I don't think it should be a bending point.
Look forward to a picture and a report when you are done.

You could also notch or groove the uprights to give the webbing something to bite into.

I had thought of that as I really don't like the idea of the screw hooks. But on an "ease of" scale I think drilling a hole and cranking that metal beastie in is the winner. The other thought I had was to plant some small hardwood dowel tabs to prevent slippage. But again, I have the screw hooks they provided and I woul have to resource the dowels. Sooo... It is ugly enuf and so a screw hook sticking out of the post is not going to make or break the eye candy factor.
I may be slow... But I sure am gimpy.

On mine I was thinking of using a router to make the notch.

hehehehe... that's a fine idea if you have one.

It's also much easier to do if you do it before you get the whole thing shimmed together.

    Do you really need dowels?

Why not just some square wood blocks fastened to each side of the 4x4? Just use some dry wall screws or wood screws to fasten. Seems like that should work. Or even one wood block to the back side of the 4x4??

Stop you? Not likely. This is a forum of enablers.
