there's a way to splice double braided into eyes and such.......might seem a little more complicated than simple hollow braided rope...but seems very strong and secure. This link is for the apparently thicker double braid ropes, but I've no doubt it can be done with smaller diameter cords.

Double braid and solid braid refer to different construction than kern mantle that he is talking about. 550 cord and most climbing ropes are kern mantle. Not sure why with 550 but with climbing rope the outside skin is for abrasion while the core is for strength and stretch control. The outside will usually stretch more than the inner core due to it's construction.
    YMMV

interesting, I did not see where in the OP it stated which double braid he had. FWIW, I did an eye splice with a twisted poly rope just for the heck of it using Animated Knot's instructions lol

I never did. Does double braid mean that there are always two strands running in parallel where one strand would be sufficient for the purpose of braiding? If so, I have a double braid. Seriously, it's just some generic rope that I picked up at a diy store.
