Nice setup you two! I am impressed that this works, would have thought it tips over to the sides when swinging.
Enjoy your garden hang time :-)

Thanks, Jolunder. Two guy lines from each post, coming out at 45* from the centre line, and then held in the ground by a foot of 1/4" rebar stake prevents any sideways movement. This held me AND 4 fidgety children without collapsing 👍👍👍

Very nice work there. 2x2 is not a problem at all as long as there are no knots in them. They need to be clean wood.
Another use for them is the TDS (turtledog stand). Use 6 pieces to make two tripods. Then use a crossbar to hang from. It does cut the footprint since you don't have guylines and also lessens the trip hazzard.
Enjoy and have fun with your family, before they have fun without you

Thanks for that. I have seen several write-ups on the TDS, and I particularly like how the footprint is reduced. If I were to want something a little more permanent I'd definitely go that route. This was only done to demonstrate how quick and inexpensively a treeless set-up can be if caught suddenly without trees.

Fourq2, nice set up. Did a similar set up in my back yard after a heavy rain and found out that it is the stakes that are the key element in making it work, especially in soft ground. I had to go back in my garage several times and come up with monster stakes to make it hold my weight. Does prove the point that one does not need trees to hang. Thank you for sharing.
Agreed, DH. The posts are good because they're being compressed along their length and so are easily able to cope with the pressure. As I mentioned at the end of my initial post, it is more likely that the stakes pull out rather than the posts breaking that'll dump you on the ground.

Here is a video I made of my kayak paddle setup for hanging tree-less. I have since changed my hammock and my suspension method but the free-standing rig works for pretty much any suspension system. I have changed the pegs I use too. I use plastic heavy duty sand pegs which are 2" wide and about 18" long. And I only use 2 anchor points either end now too like fourq2's setup.
