    Tarp length???

I have an 11' gathered end hammock, what length of tarp would give me enough rain coverage? Im thinking I read here it should be one foot longer than the hammock as a general rule. 10' hammock = 11' tarp length, 11' hammock = 12' tarp length etc.. Thanks!

you also have to factor in the fact that you will be hanging the hammock loosely, so the hammock will not be 11 feet long once hung.

The length of the hung hammock will be about 83% of the stretched out length. If the tarp has doors, it needs only a few inches of overlap at each end. Without doors, I would want at least a foot at each end.

My 11' hammock under my 11' tarp leaves about 10" of clearance on both ends. I have doors but even without them you'd be fine if you pitched the tarp low and close to the hammock.

Just sold my 11' tarp because it didn't have enough coverage when the rain started to blow, UGQ made me a custom 12' to cover my 11' Dangerbird. Keeps the hardware and stuff drier also. I run no doors in all seasons though

I'm glad I came across this discussion. I was about to post the same one. I have an 11' hammock as well. I'm planning a DIY tarp. I'm thinking of making it between 11' and 12' long. I'm leaning towards a 12' Hex with the door modification Shug has as shown in his latest "Tarp Talk" videos.

Something to keep in mind about using a 12' tarp is you can't hang it as low as an 11' tarp because it would come in contact with your hammock suspension.

I like the 12' RL over my 11' hammocks. if there are no doors it just offer more protection. I have tried my warbonnet edge tarp over as well, but just seems....small. I keep that one over my switchback hammock which is 10'. the height being over hammock never seemed to be an issue for being to "high" in the past year and have camped all seasons, all weather conditions (old man winter tarp in -40 even)
