Interesting to see the heat coloration on this stove. Mine has color at the top, but this stove has probably been used about half the time with alcohol, so it has heated up down near the alcohol pan, too. This is not a defect. If anything, it points up the versatility of the Bushcooker design.

Potential buyers may be interested in my experience with Bushcookers. I started by buying an LT1, and quickly discovered that there's a bit of a learning curve with it - principally with regard to having all my wood prepared ahead of time and all my food ready to cook, so I could relax and feed the stove gradually. If I stopped to do something else the fire might go out, because these stoves burn most efficiently when they're not fully loaded and plenty of air can circulate around the wood. On HF there has been a lot of enthusiasm for Bushbuddies and the fact that they can be loaded up and lit from the top so they don't need tending as often. When Bushcookers first were noticed on the forum there was speculation about the relative merits of the Bushbuddy and the Bushcooker LT1, but I don't think anybody had actual experience and practice with both. So, early in my learning curve, I decided to get a Bushcooker LT2 because its firebox is closer in size to the Bushbuddy's. It seemed a bit easier to manage because I could load more wood at a time (though still not batch-loading like the Bushbuddy). Well, several years later I realized that I prefer the smaller LT1, because it puts out more than enough heat when cooking for two people, it uses less wood, and it weighs 2.5 ounces. I not only had to learn how much wood to gather but also when to look for it. The best time for me is while I'm hiking. I can be more selective, and I'm less likely to get too much. (At first I would spend 45 minutes batonning wood, and then leave most of it behind when breaking camp the next day. Now I generally find better wood, and it takes much less time to get a cookfire going when I stop for the night. I like the fact that it keeps me looking around while on the trail, too.

In short, after trying numerous woodstoves, I have come back to the LT 1. I like the fact that it's fully assembled, tough as nails, tiny, and gets a lot of heat from a very small amount of fuel. I have long since stopped carrying alcohol as a backup fuel. My 25 cents.

Good deal with a ti pot, too.
