I have a custom two door Spindrift on the way that includes a horizontal zipper at the head end (and at the foot end) and sewn in loops as mentioned above. Should be easy to slide the pad in and out without having to dismount the Spindrift. OEM bug net should be useable with the loops and a carabiner.

I have a trip planned for later this week from central Arizona (hot) winding up to Jackson, WY (rainy, cold, some snow) and I will leave that Spindrift on for the entire trip. Should be pretty good in the hot weather and good in the cold, wet weather too. A tarp in snakeskins is going with me too.
That zipper idea is a good one. It is indeed a hassle inserting a pad when the Spindrift is installed. I personally think a zipper on only one end would suffice. I also wonder if a Velcro closure would be lighter. I may consider that mod as I like to use a pad and UQ in cold weather.

I think a 30" zipper at the head end only would be fine for an inflatable pad. Only reason for a zipper at the foot end too is in case you might want to use a CCF pad and it would be easier to install and flatten out if you could reach it from both ends of the hammock.

I did the Dutch biner mod on my two RR and after the first trip I've put the original suspension hardware back on. With the Dutch biner both of my RR tended to want to lean to one side if laying in the center of the hammock. It isn't much harder to remove the original hardware so I'd recommend just sticking with it.

New member - Ridgerunner & Spindrift & warmer weather Question...

I have never noticed any lean with the Dutch biners at all. That is the first that I have heard about it.

That is true. I use a Thermarest which is easy to just shove in there.

i want to thank you for posting this

i had a couple spindrifts on order that hadn't been started yet and i asked brandon to do the same mod for me

i think its brilliant to add zippers to easily add pads

convenient and personalized for your own style of hanging

    thanks to you and brandon

    love this place
