My first couple of nights in my hammock

I spend this weekend motorcycle camping in the Mohawk Trail State Forest. What a beautiful place. Setting up did not take long at all. I had a few issues with the hight of the hammock at first but sorted that out. My only complaint was the quality of my pillow. A blow-up pillow does not do it for me, I need to get something better...

Here is my setup. Please comment if you see anything that I might have done wrong or that I might do better next time.

    Thanks,

    Leon

    Nice setup!

I've used a couple of inflatable pillows (Montbell and a cheapie) and didn't care for them. I picked up a Thermarest down pillow earlier this year and love it. YMMV.

    Bliksem,

Looks like a nice set up. The Mohawk Trail State Forest is great. Given your location, you might want to also consider the DAR State Forest as well as October Mountain State Forest and Mt. Greylock. All within striking distance to you.

I use a Thermarest Pillow that is stuffed with synthetic material, but, when rolled up, is quite packable. When you unroll it and let the filling expand, it's a great pillow inside my hammock. Check out the link below for details.

In any event, enjoyed your post, and don't forget to check out some of the other great State resources.

    All the best !

I really like the Nemo Fillo pillow. Its a bit pricy but so worth it if you're a temperamental sleeper like me and have to have a pillow. I hate the cheap inflatable ones too. They are worse than nothing.

Sometimes I use a piece of rolled up fleece as a neck pillow and other times I use a down pillow from Wilderness Logics which has fleece on one side and ripstop on the other. Just depends on how my body feels.

Nice looking setup!! Just me but I find that in my hammock I don't even need a pillow.
    There's no excuse for laziness...

but, if you find one, let me know.

I'm like grannypat, and now just use a fleecie.

Started with a stuff sack of clothes, then won a nice handmade hammock pillow, then a rolled up fleecie. Still use the fleecie, but now only fold it down to where it not only rests my head, but provides a little extra coverage for back of neck and shoulders. Very comfy. Found out I only needed about an inch or so of loft. It's why all the other stuff didn't suit me.
