Thank you all for the advice. Turtle Lady looks like a distinct possibility.
The Stand has to be free-standing, not staked down.
Y'all are a wealth of information!

Has anyone tried a system like this? Essentially 2 large wood dowels with amsteel (instead of his cables) tensioning them up. getting the anchors right i assume would be the trick...
i could see that at a music festival getting walked into alot
What do you think about J Falk's idea of dowel & sleeve?

Would this work with 3 dowels lashed together at each end ... And a Top Bar made of 3 pieces of fence-top-bar with similar thick-walled sleeves at the two "joints" on the top bar to make the kit fit inside a trunk and to make the top bar 12-14 feet long.
The legs would need hobbles and I'd screw metal "cups" to 8x8 inch water-treated wood to make the stand stable on beach sand.

So cool to know that Byer of Maine reads this Forum! You guys Rock!
Answer me this, I need to attach a tarp over the entire Hammock Stand ... Does the Ceara "flex" with body weight added to the hammock? I have a HH Hex Tarp to put over my Backpacker Asym Zip. I'm trying to figure a way to hang the big Tarp.
One other HUGH Question -- How Portable is the Ceara?
When one cannot use trees, Hammocking becomes creative.
Thanks again,
Coosa

Sorry for the late reply Coosa. For some reason I didn't get the alert that you replied to this thread. Maybe I need to change my settings somewhere. Anyway, yes the stand will flex, probably 3-5 inches. The stand is pretty portable, it weighs 44lbs. When we take it to a show and lose the packaging we always wrap it in shrink wrap. you can get little rolls and just do the ends to help hold it all together.

I bought one and it does the job. You can definitely hang from one.
