    I am a Newbaroo!

I have been looking for some way to spend more time outdoors and I hope that I've found it with hammock camping. I have never had a good night sleeping on the ground, and I'm too cheap to rent lodge rooms! I never knew hammock camping could be an option and I'm looking forward to learning how it is done and learning about stoves and other things to make camping more fun. I've ordered a Clark NX-250 with the full Z-liner. I didn't feel comfortable yet with the DIY route, though I can see that would be a nice way to get started too. I've watched Shug's intro video playlist, and I can see that there are a lot of things to get familiar with. I'll be looking for some cool nights soon to try this hammock out.

Once you go hammock, you never go back to the ground. Lots to learn here, feel free to fire away with questions. Pans welcome from New Jersey.

Unless you are an experienced backpacker (does not sound like it) go relatively heavy and do shorter miles. Try a base camp day hike approach until you get comfortable with your gear. That gets you the most bang for your buck combined with the least learning curve. Once you are comfortable start pushing the envelope in the direction you want to go in. That also gives you the most pleasurable time if your goal is just to be out enjoying nature.
    YMMV

Thanks for the welcome guys! I ordered my tarp sleeves today from MountainGoat. The hammock is scheduled to be here this Friday.
