Hey guys! Got a question for you all. I'm currently in the process of making a half dozen DIY hammocks as gifts. I'd like to DIY some whoopie slings to go with them but I'd like to keep the costs down as low as possible so I was considering making 'short' whoopies.

I've had a look back but I can't find details on required cord length for the fixed bury looop, adjustable loop, etc.

Whats' the smallest I can go but still with 'some' adjustability. I was thinking raw length for each whoopie 2 meters? Or is that not enough XD

I wouldn't make anything shorter than 6 ft. whoopies.

If you want to save some money, you could try UCR's. Saves a bit of amsteel per set, might end up with a couple pairs for "free", so to speak.

Tutorial is in the splicing stickies.

I have whoopie hooks to Cl on my Hennessy I really like the ease of use. However yesterday I was hanging in a heavy straight down rain and I started having water get in. It seemed to be seeping through CL. Dutch shows his hooks work as a drip break/ line. Should I add a drip line or should the hooks face up or down. Hopefully I am posting this in the right spot. Thanks for any help

I have a drip line regardless of what im using, no problems so far. Recently been playing with different things (you know what its like lol) and was using mule tape tied straight to cont loop which was also good which surprised me. Derek Hansen also has a good vid that shows this in testing

TeeDee-a question for you based on the photo if you please.

I use whoopie sling, homemade compliments of grizz, sgtrock, and a few others vids here and on YouTube.
    I think they are awsome......but

They are not the lightest adjustable system-UCR's are lighter.

Exactly how much loss in line strength does a locked brummel produce,I've seen in excess of 20%.
How much loss is there in larks headind an eye splice to a soft shackle?
What size, relative to the rope size,is a tight bend?

A soft shackle is usually twice or more than the whoopie so is that enough to maintain 100% line integrity at the whoopie eye when larks headed to the shackle.

I have come up with a "device" to further reduce complexity.

Only a single line of 3mm dyneema fixed to a tree strap is required.

    I call it the "BOOT".
It uses tension principles from climbing/descending sport.

The picture uses 1.9mm rope but was designed for 3mm line.
There are no sharp bends, even the holes are radiused like the round thimbles.

The line goes through the two holes.
Then down to the heel and wraps around itself and the calf of the boot and then the bitter end loops under the main line under nearly full tension.

I bashed this up at work in about 20 mins but did not radius the hook so I used a teardrop thimble for soft shackle protection.
The next one will be simpler and lighter and won't require a thimble.

This one is a little heavy as it is the trial model.

About 40x6x15mm made from 316l stainless flat bar

I understand the draw to hardware that everybody has. I use it myself on my tarps ridgeline. Two fleas on CL's makes set up super easy. Yet i keep coming back to knots for everything else. They are cheaper and almost as easy to use. I love seeing all the new pieces that people are coming up with, but what phantom and the others have been doing warms my heart.
