Agent00111 and I went on a last minute overnighter up to Mt. San Jacinto, the 2nd highest peak in Southern California.
We did the 16 mile hike, starting in Idyllwild, CA at Humber Park. This is the long way rather than taking the Palm Springs tram up to the peak as most of the tourist do.
We started at the Devils Slide trailhead at an elevation of 6480. We backpacked 2.1 miles up to Saddle Junction where we joined the Pacific Crest Trail. Many of the PCT hikers were on day 9-15 as they had just started from the border of Mexico. We hiked another 2 miles and found a camp spot where we were rewarded with beautiful views of the desert and Palm Springs 9000 ft below.
Agent00111 had his new Cuban Fiber tarp and DYI hammock and I had my Warbonnet Superfly with WWBB. We encountered wind gust of 40 mph. So it made for an interesting night.
My straps were humming and vibrating my hammock during the night. That was the first time I encountered this and it woke me up in the middle of the night. Does anyone have any ideas on how to stop the humming straps?
The new pole mods I used on the Superfly gave me a much roomier feel, however I was still hit in the face with the tarp from the high winds.
The next morning we packed up and pushed onward another 3.7 miles to the summit of San Jacinto at 10,834 ft. After summiting we hiked the 8 miles back tot he car.
Here's a video link of our trip. I hope you enjoy it!
