    DIY WBBB ridge line

Diy gear heads! I finally finished my own 10' version of the DL WBBB and here is a pic.

    Now my story and question:

I was too eager to try my new creation, so I hung it tight with no structural ridge line. D'oh!
Nowhere did the instructions say: DO NOT USE A HAMMOCK WITH A FOOTBOX (aka. WBBB) WITHOUT A STRUCTURAL RIDGE-LINE!
I first noticed something was wrong when I sat down to get into it and the edge on the side with the foot box was incredibly tight. Nonetheless I kept getting in and that's when I noticed that the nylon tearing from the tension. It tore about 6in parallel to the channel where the whoopsie sling prusik knot meets the gathered end on the foot side of the hammock. I reinforced the tear, and added a SRL and tested it again... It seemed to hold with no issues as the SRL takes almost all the tension when getting in.

So was this due to my inexperience and hanging the setup too tight? Can I whip it so there is reduced strain on the nylon where the whoopsie meets the gathered end? And ultimately, should I worry too much about it tearing on me again? So many questions...please help.

I am heading to Mt. Rogers this weekend and want it to be a successful first hang.

    Any advise is greatly appreciated.

I had the same thing happen to me with my DIY WBBB the first time i got in it except I actually had a ridgeline. The problem was that it just wasnt correctly reinforced (easy fix).

I have just now got around to ordering my netting and zippers for the integrated bugnet. I'm kind of dreading sewing the net on, mainly because I'm confused as to how to sew it around the channeled ends of the hammock and how to run the ridgeline inside the netting. Is there a tutorial you followed for attaching the bugnet? Any help would be appreciated!
