Depends on the lease agreement, but IMO yes. Most owners require all major repairs to be done utilizing their own people with the owner leading the decision making. In most cases, the tenant could get the job done for considerably less finding their own people/doing it themselves. Not to say I blame owners for wanting that stipulated, there are many good reasons, but they are basically spending your money as they see fit. That would bother me.

if you can break your wall without the landlord being aware you can fix too IMO. Although I can understand if you are not willing to break the rules or know how to repair the problem that it would wise to not try hanging indoors in the first place.

Another option is to put the lags in the joists above you instead of to the wall. In my house, they are 2x10 on edge for the above floor.
That said, I have been hanging on 2x4 wall studs since Christmas.

Yes it can be done. Not trying to be argumentative. Just pointing out there is a pretty clear difference between damaging property in a rent vs ownership situation.

So, out of 13 responses so far, no one has verified that they have hung from a wall, and it has failed.

    Interesting.

I have hung indoors, and have had a near failure. I have some big eyes in the three by ten ceiling joists. One day I noticed that the bolt was at an angle, it was pulling through the joist wood, and when I pulled on it the other way, it dropped right out. So to anybody hanging indoors from a ceiling, I would recommend hanging a pole between the two ceiling points, then the hammock from that to put the compressive forces on the pole instead of pulling on the ceiling.

I've never hung from a wall, but that's because I did the framing on them and I don't trust my building skills.

I don't know if it might help, but here's an earlier thread that shares some experiences of moving my hammock into the bedroom.

I've hung for over a year in my office in a home built in the '40's. I used D rings that lay flat when not in use that can be found in Home Depot by the cargo straps that were chosen due to the 2 mounting holes on the strap the D ring goes thru. I used 2 spax lag bolts due to their superior pull out strength ratings. My mounting points are a door and window jamb. Another alternative is a wood board spanning 2 or more studs, some have been crafty and made decorative shelves to lessen potential negative visual impact.

I have rope rings with 5/16" lag screws into the middle of my studs. Two months and hasn't pulled out yet or broke a stud. My hammock is hung with plenty angle. More like a 45 than 30.

If they pull out of the wall I'll have to come up with plan B.

I've hung from an eyebolt in the middle of a stud on two walls for the last 4-5 months and haven't had any issues. I've slept so good and am really glad I decided to hang a hammock in my bedroom.
