    Question Which is lighter?

So now that I have more than one Warbonnet Hammock to backpack with (BB and BBXLC both in double 1.1) the question is, which one is lighter? To be specific I would probably backpack with the BBXLC without bugnet/top cover installed. So in one scenario I would have a nice flat lay, and in the other I would have bug-netting and a shelf? This would be backpacking in the high alpine, so bugs are not much of an issue (usually). There is some allure to not pitching a tarp and not having a bugnet on some of the nicer nights. I like to keep my summer backpacking load as light as possible. I find this maximizes enjoyment on the trail when we are hiking a full day. Either way I will probably be buying a woopie slings setup for the hammock suspension that I only use while backpacking. Which setup would you choose, how would you do things differently, and which would be lighter (BBXLC no top cover or BB)?

If you'd like to mail them both to me, I'd be happy to weigh them for you.....or, of course you could just weigh them yourself.

if your really looking to shave weight get a 1.1 dbl or single traveler and tulle bug net. Or check out the Papa Smurf Darian UL. I have a 8lb summer base weight and carry the WBBB 1.1 DBL. And if you check on the warbonnet site it has all the weights listed. Good luck on ur search.
Sometimes I like to hike and think, And sometimes I just like to hike.

Hiking is'ent about waiting for the storm to pass its about learning to hike in the rain.

If I had an accurate scale of course I would weigh them myself. It does not have the weight listed for the BBXLC without the bugnet on the Warbonnet website. But thanks for the replies.

You're probably better off to purchase a scale. They're pretty cheap, I think I paid $12 for mine and it is accurate as far as I tested. That way you can get your own weights as there may be a slight variance between hammocks. Probably negligible but to me would be worth it. HYOH

Why hike with a BBXLC if you are not taking bug net or overcover? As far as I know, the shelf can only be used with one of the covers installed; if you remove both, it just an 11' no-net hammock, or am I wrong? If you really want to save weight, get a no-net hammock. I'm pretty sure it will be quite a bit lighter, because there are no zippers installed. I read Brandon does a custom 11' Traveler on request. But BIAS does some very lightweight 11' no-net hammocks, too.

I second getting a scale. I know it's not always possible for people to spare $20, but if you're looking to cut weight a cheap 5g resolution digital kitchen scale is indispensable.
