Looks really nice. Is it just the strength of the materials that keep it from wobbling end to end?

This is great. Just to clarify. You made the end pieces and leg feet. The remaining parts are fence rail?

May see about getting a few poles to try out. 4' sections make an almost 8' ridge and 4' or 8' legs. too short, too short and too long. So they would also have to be cut to make the lengths right.

Yep. There is some but as long as you don't get rough in it, it's fine and plenty strong.

It is made with 1 1/4"x1/16 wall 6061 aluminum tubing. No fence rail involved.

well way I see it, using angled, 8' seems to be workable, and for ridge pole, using 3 sections to make just under 12 feet might be do able?

as far as I can see, a lot of the military pole based stands uses 2 sections per leg, for 3 legs, and 3 or 4 sections for the ridge poles.....what would be really handy would be a piece that connects the 3 legs together rigidly, and has a ridge pole sleeve underneath to slide the poles onto....along with an eye bolt to suspend the hammock from...

I built this because I didn't like the other methods because of bulk, and I have the tools necessary to make the parts for the specific task, not to adapt some other stuff and make it work (kludgy). I may make something else that is for adapting something everyone has access to but the priority is developing the perfect stand for me. It might be that it's great for anyone and I'll pursue that when the time is right.

If you look at a well hung hammock of say 11', where are the loops at? They are not at 8' high or even 7'. On mine they are at 5' or so. That is what this stand is about. Just what is necessary to make it proper. After all this will be carried into hotel rooms when I travel for business so I don't have to sleep on a bed. It's goal is to be portable small and easy to set up.

They are hollow, imagine a slightly smaller diameter sleeve that fits well inside the pole.

I am also interested if the ridge pole can be made to at least 12 ft (WBBB XTC)
