My plan for a tarp is just throw it over the ridge pole and lash it down. I may consider a small production run after some field testing.

    Only a few suggestions:

    • I think I'd change is the maximum tube length to something around 24" - imagine duffle bag size
    • A "floor friendly foot" with angled rubber tips?
    • Titanium? Carbon Fiber? maybe for the 5th or 8th generation model
Not sure I want to donate 3.5% to Etsy though. I designed this for my needs, and to me, less parts is better.
The feet are already protective of all but the most delicate floors. The legs are at 45º and the points on the feet are at 22.5° which leaves a radiused flat line about 1" long in contact with the floor.

    does it 'rack' head-to-toe?
There is a little rock from end to end that can be eliminated easily with a run of zing-it from one of the feet to the top joint. It doesn't bother me though.

I might consider selling a 'short kit' as well if there is a demand.

Thanks for all the replies guys. It was not cheap using aluminum but it is worth it to me. There is 30' of poles in this so black pipe would have been over 40 lbs. This is under 10 lbs. As far as exotic materials and shorter sections go, I don't see the need to pack this anywhere there is a trail and trees.

I was actually thinking about some of the motorcyclists and small-car campers on the forum... shorter lengths that could pack into a duffle might market well for them.

I'm fairly certain that we all are in agreement that this is the nicest most professional looking stand we have ever seen and we must have it.

In that case, I can see the utility. It would force me to either make some sort of latch or just use 1/8" wall tubing and make slip joints like elsewhere on it.

Thanks, It will require some more testing and probably further refinement as well as some do's and don'ts for the instructions. I want to see if 1" tubing would be strong enough for instance as well as weight and inclination testing.

Version 2.0 should be for the 4' military surplus aluminum poles.

I am married so I am quite familiar with "do's and don'ts".

A little further testing. Works as I had hoped. Have hung a few times in it now. In the first photo, with Violet the Chug, it's set up on uneven ground (about 18" higher on the right side). The uneven length legs with the extension moved to the other end lets it adapt to 1-1/2 feet of uneven terrain. The hammock just pulls the ridge pole and the parts together so no fasteners are needed. The second photo shows how the loops attach and are secure. The third shows a short tarp setup on it.

    A couple more pics.
