Need Texas Hangers help!

Hey fellas,
I'm looking to go hiking in Texas within a couple hours of north Houston, probably just a 2 night hang with some good hiking trails.
Any help would be appreciated!

Lone Star Hiking Trail:

For a couple of days in one area, best bet is Section 1. There's a nice little spot on the Little Lake Creek Loop just south of FS Road 211A, and another in the Wilderness on the LSHT. You can string a bunch of trails together in that section, do up to 19-20 miles in one day, and end up a 1/2 mile from your car, or space it out so that you spend onn night on the trail and a good hike back to the car.

Give us a shout when you come, I'm sure we can find some company for you if you want it.

Thanks for the info!! My brother in law lives in Houston and wants to get some quality time with his 12 year old and I'm trying to get them into hammock camping. It will be in a couple months I'll let you know and thanks again for the info.

Close to Austin, there is Bastrop and Buescher State Parks. Bastrop was hit hard by forest fires so check first, but they both have hiking and camping. Lockhart State Park has some hiking trails also. As Sargevining mentioned the Lone Star Trail is a great option. The parks give you the option of setting up a base camp and doing day hikes or even biking. One thing I like about Lockhart is they have a 9 hole public golf course so you can go out there at night and see the stars. (or you can pay a small fee and play several rounds of golf if that is your cup of tea)

I'm on the side of the 4C trail. I like state parks for testing out gear and getting things squared away, but for quality time, it usually comes from back country to me. State parks get real crowded in the summer months.

Lost Maples is two hours from New Braunfels.

Pedernales State Park is also supposed to be real nice too.

Lost Maples and Pedernales Falls are both beautiful and easy to get to from New Braunfels. I'm headed out to Lost Maples next weekend, actually!

I believe this is the spot you were referring to, spent a few nights there just recently:

Great little spot, only a short hike from Trail Head #2 or a slightly longer one from #1. There are some fish in the pond but I doubt anything of edible size, still it did provide some relaxation by wetting a line (helped by the canteen of mezcal I always take hammock camping). I didn't see anyone until the Friday I was leaving, likely because I was there mid week so if you go during the weekend I would count on seeing other hikers out there. I didn't see much wildlife however a curious coyote came within stone's throw of my camp site so I would recommend hanging your food (difficult to do in a pine forest though).
