    Sleep Paralysis

Have any of you ever had sleep paralysis/the old hag syndrome? I don't like sleeping face up since your more prone to get sleep paralysis when you do that, and that might be disastrous to experience on a camping trip.

Has anyone ever had sleep paralysis in a hammock? It's quite possible that the wrap around effect of a hammock can mitigate the probability of sleep paralysis, but I can't confirm it (and honestly, I'm too much of a wimp to experiment).

Well experimenting would just consist of me sleeping on my back, which is by far the most comfortable position in a hammock.

(Tidbit of info: There's a genetic component - it's not related to witchcraft or anything in any way, shape, or form.)

I used to get it once in a while as a kid. Only when waking up.
It was a weird twilight state, sort of like being awake but not being able to get up.
Or more like being aware that you are asleep and need to wake up if that makes any sense.

Anyway, does not happen much anymore and for sure never in a hammock.
Even after spending the last year in a hammock.

I wouldn't worry about it, when I don't get out of a hammock, it's because I WANT to sleep more.

I have had it very infrequently in bed. I've never had it in a hammock but that doesn't mean I won't someday.

I don't see why it would bother me more in a hammock than a bed and have never considered changing my sleeping habits due to it.

I don't really know how to answer this poll. I go into paralysis every night when I get into my hammock. Which by the way is a gathered end with the mini spreader bars. The only thing that will get me up is a dysfunctional bladder that screams for attention around 3:00 am.

My friend gets it often. Freaks him out pretty good, too. I've never experienced it, but I can only imagine it wouldn't be very nice.

I've been sleeping full-time in my hammock for almost three months (?) now (I have narcolepsy and sleep paralysis is one of the many symptoms I have, but honestly it's been years since the last time), and have not experienced it, but I have never experienced it on the ground either, just in a bed (not fun). I agree, though, I can't see it being worse in a hammock, and too, I'd think the fact that the hammock help most go into a deeper sleep, in combination with that safe feeling it gives, would work against it.

It sounds mildly terrifying to me. I'm happy that I've never felt it.
