My first DIY hammock with bug netting

Pics of my first project. I took a little different route on the bug netting. I created a tube that narrows at the ends, rather than sewing the netting to the edges of the hammock. The end openings will be cinched together using cord I carry in my pack.

I still have to add a velcro fastened opening on the side for entry and exit. The tube design allows the netting to be easily removed and I think will also provide some protection from bugs biting through the bottom of the hammock. I live in Alabama so summertime mosquitos are a big concern. Also, I'm new to sewing and don't feel good enough yet to try sewing directly to the hammock.

    Congrats. Looks great.

I've been thinking about a netting system similar to yours. It would allow it to be used on a variety of hammocks.

Tying the ends of the hammock can be done several ways. Some people us the hammock as part of a sheetbend or double sheet bend. Others used a figure eight stopper knot in the hammock and attach the suspension ropes behind the wad a fabric resulting from the knots. There is really no right or wrong way to do that as long as the suspension ropes and the hammock stay together.Asimple overhand knot where the excess fabric is doubledback and zip-tied to the hammock body behind the knot would suffice just as much as anything else. The issue of knots for the hammock whipping has more to do with suffucuent fabric lengtth to allow the knot used than which particular knot you tie.

    Rosomaha,

I did used the folding method on Just Jeff's page and secure it with a zip tie. Then I wrapped electrical tape over the zip tie to keep it from snagging my netting. The rop is attached using a basic ?prusic? knot.

Thanks. I still need to cut and sew the opening. I'm leaning now towards an approx 3ft opening, use hem tape to cover the edges and then place 1'' squares of velcro along the opening to secure it.
