I hang my platypus at my head with an s-biner so I can get water easily while in the hammock, and my pack hangs at the foot end, which I use to throw stuff in while I am at camp.
Thanks, I have a roll top stuff sack and some extra carabiners laying around, I'll try that this weekend and see how it goes. Maybe I won't have to buy anything that way! Not a big fan of the Night ize method but to each his own. And that Molly Mac Gear box is awesome but I'm looking for something a little less pricey. Thanks for the help.

Also I don't know how much attention this thread is getting but am I really the only one that does the roll and pee method? It's way better than finding your boots and walking around in the middle of the night.

DIY two small hammocks hung from the ridgeline. Easy project, good practice for making a full sized one. Bigger hammock holds shoes and the next day's clothing--allows you to grab and put them on without even getting out of the hammock while keeping it all organized and dry under the tarp, smaller one holds headlamp, Kindle and other small items needed close at hand:

I really like that smaller one. Do you know where I could find plans/howto for something like that?

I am not the one to comment on this, LOL! On sub-freezing nights I have to really talk myself out of the hammock at 3 am!

That technique is probably only possible on a hammock with no ridgeline, and I'm not giving up my ridgeline. I'm also not going to pee anywhere near my hammock, tarp or gear. I've never had a problem finding my boots.

If I tried this technique, I betcha I could "find" my boots on the 1st try!

Nothing to it. There's an easy way and an easier way.

The easy way is to take a piece of 1.1 nylon of the size you think you might need. I made that one from a piece of scrap about 25" x 39". Sew a 1/2" hem all sides, then fold the ends down about 1 1'2" and sew it into a channel. Run a wire tie through the channels and hook a small S biner onto the wires ties, then clip that to two prusiks on the ridgeline. If you use a hot knife to cut the fabric, you really don't need to hem the sides. I hemmed mine b/c I put some snaps along the edges for the times when I stow my down socks in there. When i have them with me I just snap the little hammock shut, then stuff the hammock into its pocket on my pack and they're always with me.

You could also just cut the fabric, gather the ends into a ball and pull a wire tie around that and repeat the process above with the S biners. Should be OK if you're just stowing small stuff in it.

You can make just about any size you want using either method.

There's also a bit more complicated procedure:

Thanks, I will definitely be giving that diy project a shot. And as far as hitting my boots goes, I've never had a problem. I'd rather spend a little extra time tying my line to the trees and doing my roll than have to get out and walk around to pee at 4am. But that's just me haha.

How about peak bags? Or if you're looking for a way to stash your pack, clip it to one end of your hammock?
