I've used two over lapping superfly tarps to cover one larger area. My mom has used one to cover two hammocks successfully, but you will be really close and need the trees set up to do it. It is possible though.

Chase your dreams without fear or hesitation!
Maybe needs a third line going to the triangle joint to put additional tension on the centre.
The other thing that might work would involve using 2 part poles with an angled joiner on them to raise the peak up slightly. That would preclude using the hiking sticks but would still be lighter than having 2 tarps and having them overlap.
preferably what I'm looking for would be similar to the superfly but with a larger width and the ability to pole-mod to make it spacious enough for two hammocks that would be hung from the same tree, separated with spreader bars (hiking poles). the tarp would also have appropriately sized door flaps to deal with the extra width.
What I'm trying to avoid:
- the need for two taps
- the need for more that 2 trees
- time consuming rigging
The Superfly is a 4-season tarp for one person. As soon as you put two people under it, it's no longer a 4-season tarp - you'll have to hang the tarp high enough to clear two hammocks, so now you'll have less protection from wind and blowing precipitation. The doors are likely to be little use as well. There will be no "batten down the hatches" configuration in a two-person setup.
Do people do it? Yeah, but there are tradeoffs. If you go with a custom tarp, I think you'll still face the issue of having to hang the tarp pretty high (bring a step ladder) to clear two hammocks. As high as you'd have to hang it, the wind would likely get under it and turn your tarp into a giant sail.
If you're mostly fair-weather campers, then disregard my comments - should work fine for light precipitation/wind.

I spent more time (several) times this past winter trying to rig up a single tarp for me and my little one rather than just hanging his over his rig. In the long run, I think you and your hanging partner would be much more comfortable and happier with two tarps. My experience over the winter in trying to be closer to my son was that it took me more time and more fiddle factor to hang a single tarp for us. It was actually a real pain at times trying to just find the right trees to do it. In my opinion this is going to cause you lots of frustration in the long run. It is MORE time comsuming. You will always need more than two trees in this situation unless I am doing it all wrong. I am worried that this could cause you lots of pain and mental anguish. This is an intervention of sorts I guess. Get two tarps and be done with it. You will be very glad you did. But no matter what you decide, happy hangin!
