    Phantom Grappler Suspension

No Knots No Hardware No Lose Strap
    See video on YouTube:
    Phantom Grappler Suspension
Hammock Campers, this is a stock whoopie sling and strap modification
using amsteel. A nine inch loop is spliced onto adjustable end of whoopie sling and then five wrap prusiked onto strap thus eliminating the marlin spike hitch and toggle. This part is called Phantom because it was elusive. The end of the tree strap has a Grapplers Hitch permanently attached. Grapplers Hitch replaces carabiners and other hardware; can never be lost and holds like a grappler. My new creation, shown at Yates Hang, can be partly disassembled to change tree straps and or hammocks. But in the field it works like an all-in-one suspension making it almost impossible to lose your strap. Grapplers Hitch is tied with a round turn and a double diamond knot.
I show how to tie it in another video called Grapplers Hitch.

Interesting idea. I'm not sure I would trust the 1" webbing to hold the prussik wrap.... Nice hat tho I can see where it's useful....I just question the "non slip" of the prussik wrap on top of webbing.....

    Here's the video link

I saw this in person & it is an interesting setup.
I'm curious if any others have had experience with the prussik wrap on top of webbing.

And nice job on no use of hardware

CamoDeafie82 I wondered if would work so I tested it. I used a short scrap of amsteel and tied a loop through whoopie sling using an overhand knot. Then I tied a 5wrap prusik on my Wilderness Logics tree strap
Tightened it and hung on it
    No slip at all
Or you can use a continuous loop 8 or 9 inch and 5wrap prusik it onto tree strap and then just for speed use a carabiner to link the loop to the whoopie sling
    Tighten prusik then hang

    No problem of course!

Regarding the prussik on the webbing, have you had any experience in wet/rainy conditions yet? I wondered how it holds up then.

I did find an older thread (LINK HERE) that talks a bit about the prussiks on the webbing - though the topic bounces around in the middle, by the end there are some folks that reported testing it.

And to think I thought my UCRs were perfect...

Do you think you could use Dynaglide for the grappler's hitch?

Interesting, some people report in that link that prussiks twisted and became difficult to untie, but success with klemheist knots http://www.animatedknots.com/klemheist/index.php which is very similar to prussiks, and it also talks about the Bachmann hitch which requires the use of a ring or carabiner...if you used single rings, the Bachmann knot could work for the hammock end whoopies?

LOL. hammock suspensions are of such wide variety, I truly doubt there is an identical hammock in any group hang....I'd think the dynaglide could work?
