    does size really matter?

Sorry for the innuendo, couldnt help myself.

Okay, ive been waiting a while to get my first hammock. Ive done the research and based on pricing, complete packaging and what have you ive chosen hennessy. Im about to take advantage of my REI dividend, some gift cards and the 20% off sale. Question now is: expedition, or ultralight backpacker. Expedition is 2lbs, 13 oz advertised, and hold someone up to 6ft ans 250lbs. The other is a few oz lighter and holds someone up to 7ft, 300lbs.
Now i float between 195 and 210 depending on my snacking habits. So i would fit in the expedition, but would i be more comfy in the larger one? Or is going bigger going to make me less comfortable?

    Thanks you experienced hanging folk!

Can't you try them out? If REI is anything like MEC they have a phenomenal return/try out policy.

Double check your figures. IIRC, the Hennessy ultra/hyper lites are only good for 200# and 6'.

Explorer Deluxe is plenty big and comfy.
Grant me the serenity to accept the things I cannot change, the strength to change the things I can, and the wisdom to know the difference.

If you are over 6' you will probably want the longer one. I'm 6'-2", and have an 11' gathered end hammock. I get an extremely comfy, flat lay in it.

Of course size matters! Some prefer more length, some prefer more girth. It also depends on how long you hang. Do you hang to the left or right? Everyone has their own comfort levels, you have to experiment to find out what works. Some like top entry, some like side entry, and some like bottom entry. Go to a group hang near you and play around, see how YOU like to lay!

Yes, I can try 'em out, but I may lose the dividend part and sale price if I exchange/return. Unsure of that one

To fix my numbers issue ( I accidentally said the ultralight backpacker):

    Expedition Asym zip:
    250lb limit
    weight of 2lb, 13 oz
good for people up to 6'

    Explorer Ultralight Asym Zip:
    250lb limit
    2lb 4 oz
good for people up to 7'

    To clarify, I am 5'11
It's a $100 difference in price (more for the explorer ultralight).

I just don't want to feel cramped, but don't want a bigger one if I will not lay as flat.
This will mainly be used for weekend backpacking (typically 30-40 miles), and its replacing my 3-man, 10+lb MountainHardwear tent I've been making do with for the past 3 trips.

I'm pretty sure that bigger=flatter in general.

I have an Expedition and find it a little tight for me @6' 200. I also think more than 60" wide is just wasted. I sleep full time in a 12'x90" and have enough material on the foot side to cover me.

    Length over girth for me.

Longer will give you flatter all things considered. In general you will also need less diagonal in a longer hammock.
    YMMV
