The TDS is usually the best option since you can set it up and move it without damaging the tree roots. Also you can always move it back into the shade as the sun moves.

You don't want ^ to happen, so if you still want to use 4x4 posts, you may want to consider putting a 2x2, dowel rod, top rail, etc between the posts at the hammock connection points to keep them (the posts) from being pulled in and eventually breaking. The top rail is what is also used for the TDS to keep the compression from collapsing the stand.
Enjoy and have fun with your family, before they have fun without you

I was doing the one tree set up. Even set a 2" pipe in the ground for the other end. Then the tree died . I thought about making a stand, but hanging in the sun even with a tarp is too hot. Planted a new tree . It will be many years before I'll get to use it .

Check out the price of Fence corner post. Not going to break like 4X4s and as long as you pour them correctly so water can't puddle against the metal, dig an over deep hole and put in 6" of gravel and keep a top on the post it might just outlive you.
    Best of luck Paul

Anyone here actually tried this? In soft ground, I have a hard time believing those lag bolts won't come right out.

I made a quick stand out of a 2x4, an eye bolt, and a hook. Three 10 inch spikes in the ground and some rope. It works.

However, here I am looking up info about stands so that should tell you something...

Use pressure treated (2) 6x6x12s set 3-4' in the ground with a couple of big bags of cement in the holes with each. (Let em set several weeks)
For braces use (2) pressure treated 2X6X16S AT THE TOP, then 2x6 crosspieces about 2' apart.
I put in some large heavy stainless eye bolts for hanging.
I painted the whole thing white. Better to wait a couple of years to paint pressure treated lumber.

I would build a stand that way you can move it, or take it camping where there’s not many trees I use fence posts anchors and ratchet straps for each stand. Angling the fence posts at a 60 degree angle so it has leverage when you are in the hammock.
