    Using beads

I have been eyeballing a lot of whoopie slings and noticed a bead. What is that bead for?

    Cheers

Prevents the loop from going down into the bury.

Makes it easier to grab the loop and stretch it back out.

The bead is to keep you from pulling the loop into the bury, which renders the whoopie sling useless.

That is a pretty good idea, I may use that on the next pair I build.

The wind was whipping pretty good yesterday as I set up my GT ultralight. Got first tree hugger/marlin spike up, got the first whoopie hooked up.
I deployed the hammock from its bag as I walked to the second tree. Holding the end of the hammock and whoopie sling while I got the hugger set. A gust filled the hammock and yanked. I manage to hold on to the whoopie but soon discovered that the loop was gone, buried in the bury..
Some careful picking and I had the loop back out.

I got it set, and then went back to the first to adjust it. The whoopie slipped of the marlin hitch as a gust came up and being a slow learner. I found myself with the loop buried for the second time in a couple minutes.

I made these whoopie slings a couple of weeks ago based on a youtube video. They didn't mention beads...
I love the system but have to go back, take them apart and rebuild with the safety beads..

The bead is on the loop bury not the end bury; the end bury is what you are thinking of I believe.

I was thinking the tag piece you pull to make adjustments.

Yes, that end uses an end bury. The adjustable loop has a bead threaded on it to keep from burying the loop inadvertently. If the loop is pulled it will bury itself much like the end bury and it is very difficult to dig out.
