Why camo?

I think many here are suggesting you can do that easily with earth tone solid colors.
Which will also save you weight and $$$

Weight, not in the set-up I have. Money, marginally, yes. I use earth tones for my waterproof fabric (OD brown) and camo for the actual hammock body. The waterproof fabric is stock-standard 30d sil; the fabric on the hammock is 1.4 oz/sq yd ripstop.

It was marginally more expensive than the 1.4 to 1.6 oz/sq yd fabric I can get elsewhere (with the exception of DIYGS 2nds; it was roughly double that price), but not any heavier for the fabric I want to lie on. I think the total extra cost was somewhere in the $8 range over standard color fabric? Something like that...

One thing that I've seen that is effective is subdued colors and have some of that netting that has fake leaves on it that's used to hide things. It breaks up the unnatural lines made buy our hammock tarps, so it's harder to see from a distance. So with that, if you're off the beaten path, you might have better luck hiding.

no, not really. but if I was really in a situation like that some of that netting would move to the good weight category in my book. I'm not sure most of us can really comprehend something like that happening to us if we live in the USA or other 1st world country. The examples of people using that netting are traveling by bike or motorcycle a lot of times, not necessarily on foot. These guys must take more weight than most of us are comfortable bearing because of their situation. It would be interesting to see how our gear selections would change when we are faced with the knowledge that our safety might depend on something for an extended duration vs a weekend hike

Well, I think I rest that much more soundly knowing I am darn near invisible. 😁

The snoring is audio camouflage, people think it is a bear, or perhaps a very large slumbering rodent.

The main reason I started making all my gear out of camo 1.1 is because I got it for under $1 per yard.

Because it looks cool and you can hide if you want or need to.....you never know so why not be versatile. Loud bright stuff is kind of annoying. Of course earth tones work too, I just like camo and a little extra weight/cost isn't a big deal

Fabric: 1.9oz/70D Nylon
Price: $180

The price differential is due to fabric, not pattern.

That's irrelevant - just proves that they likely didn't have a camo version of 1.7 oz 70D nylon but you can have a camo version in 1.9 oz that costs more.

The Wilderness Logics Tadpole in camo and non-camo are both 1.2 oz. Silnylon fabric yet the camo version is $25 more. The HG standard CF tarp in camo is $45 more. All colors of 1.1 oz. silnylon at http://www.ripstopbytheroll.com is $5.95 a yard, but the camo 1.1 oz is $8.25 a yard.

I can keep going, but have yet to find an example that camo doesn't cost more, regardless of whether it's the same or different fabric. And it always seem to weigh more.

A few months ago, I was at Wally World shopping for arrows. The 32" aluminum arrows with field tip were $4.50 each. In camo, they were $5.50 each. Go figure.

I just like subdued campsites. In the woods, I like to stealth camp. I like the option of making myself visible with a blaze orange bandana and blaze orange dry bag. It doesn't take much to notice them. With no bandana folded over my ridge line, a lot of people would walk right by and not notice the campsite off the trail. I'll hang the bandana when I go get water, use the bathroom, during hunting season, etc.

Where i'm from, it kinda helps with the whole "leave no trace" attitude.
