The water testing that was done that supports this statement is form the 1930's. It is a blanket statement and the USFS is not doing active testing for potability of water. That said, there are streams that are orange with oil slicks visible. Another concern all over Ohio is agricultural runoff. Filters don't get those contaminants either. For a weekend you can find decent water if needed. But I do cache water on the way in to Lake V, Archers Fork, Morgan Sisters etc.
