miister, how much do you weigh?

If you want a set of 12 gram slings, you can always go with Dynaglide. I put a 200# weight limit on the ones I sell, but Im 275 and gargoyle is 340 and we both have had succes using it in our suspensions. If you are DIY'ing it... give it a shot.

Thanks for the report, miisterwright. A 10" bury is pretty short, IME. Mine are usually 14" or so. While I prefer UCRs, they are not for everyone and the extra weight of an equivalent whoopie sling isn't really that much.

    I'm a lightweight at about 155 lbs.

I'm not really one to count grams so I'm not freaking out over the weight of the whoopieslings, but I like to tinker. I'll get some dynaglide next time I order rope and make some out slings out of it to see how I like it.

I use a 10 inch bury and a single line friction knott I will try to get some pictures up soon. I will say that these were much easier to tie than regular prusiks and they simplify the setup since the eye only needs to be tiny and the bury on the eye can be used as part of the knott so It does not add a great deal to the minimum length.

Generally what I do is on takedown I move the UCR to the longest possible configuration. Then on setup I set the prusiks and when the hammock is where I want it, I pull the tail through and milk it down. We have 5 sets of UCR suspensions like this now in the family, they are great.

I agree that the weight penalty is not much for a full WS but I personally feel that A, the chance of the loop slipping on the toggle is higher with WS and with 13 ft of Amsteel I get a 10 ft UCR instead of a 5.5 ft WS. although the weight penalty is not much more, it is great that I can get 1.5+ suspensions out of the same line I would use for WS suspensions. With 6 hangers in the house suspension changes become costly

Could anyone share with me a video on UCR contruction? Have a good idea after reading everyone's posts, but just want to be sure to get it right. Thanks

I think there was a whoopie sling video earlier in this thread (or a related one). UCR follows the same process. Only difference is that a UCR is made with two separate lines rather than one line doubled back on itself. It's a forgiving process and you can always pull it apart and try again if you don't like the first (or second... ) result.

Edit: the link to the video I'd mentioned earlier in this thread now seems to have a "malformed URL". Anyway, there's a good whoopie sling video included in this thread. Same process for a UCR.

I personally use whoopie slings onto tree webbing, with a marlin spike hitch and toggle, but I can see lots of uses for this method, one being a stuctural ridgeline.
I make most of my kit and will be making one of these for trialling, good post and an exciting thread, Jeff
