    UQ cold weather check out

Did not go so well. Really fast moving cold front coming in and was hoping to sleep out at 30 degrees to check out climashield DIY UQ. I knew they were forecasting strong winds but decided to go for it anyway. You should have seen me putting up my hammock in 20 to 25 mph winds. Wind was ferocious, i was swinging tween tha trees. You heard of whispering pines well these were screaming oaks. About 11:30 i heard something and a 2" x4' limb had blown off a tree and landed beside my hammock. Ok thats enough. Only got to 36 anyway. Up until then was comfortable.

Close one! Did you have a tarp? Snow broke a limb off on a long ago trip, then the snow loaded limb went right through my buddies tarp, dumping a big load of snow in his face and down into his synthetic bag. Made for a cold wet night, but at least it did not injure him.

Of all the things that nature can hurl at us such as rain, cold, heat, etc. I find wind the hardest to deal with.

No tarp in that wind, and you stayed warm enough at 36? Pretty darn good!

What is the weight ( in ounces per square yard) of the CS you used? What kind of shell material ( windproof? )

I think i caused some misunderstanding. I gave up because of limbs falling but before it got to the low of the night. Was still in the 40's when i came in. Hopefully will get another cold night to check it out

I'm waiting on my 5.0 CS so I can make an UG and a TQ. The rip-stop came today. I'm curious on your diy... did you make the width of the shell the same? In one diy I saw they show the widths slightly different. Not sure why that would make any difference.
Good luck with yours and I'm looking forward to making mine!
